What does “Kairos” mean?

Kairos is a Greek word that refers to a sacred, opportune moment in time—a moment appointed by God. It’s not just any time... it’s the right time.

Your college years are a unique and powerful season—a time of growth, learning, and becoming. You're forming the habits, relationships, and convictions that will shape your future.

Kairos Dance Collective is here to enrich that season with the creative expression you love: dance. Because who knows? Maybe you’re in this region, and on this team, for such a time as this.

What genres will be included?

Technique classes on Tuesday will vary between jazz, dance conditioning, and modern techniques. Choreography will vary on the types of events we are preparing for, but expect most pieces to be anchored in jazz and contemporary styles.

What if I miss a bunch of classes?

Participation in the team will require a commitment from all dancers. The team fee will be processed each month of the semester regardless of your attendance, so make the most of your investment and come to class and rehearsal! You will be allotted 3 Tuesday and 2 Thursday absences each semester. Absences beyond that may result in inability to perform.

What if I sign up and then change my mind?

We will do all that we can to make this an incredible experience for our regional college dancers, so this likely won’t happen. However if you decide the team isn’t for you, you may withdraw through September 15 for the fall semester and through February 19 for the spring semester. After those dates you’ll be committed to finishing the semester.

Who is the teacher/choreographer?

The amazing Emily Akers will be your teacher and choreographer. Emily has a dance degree from WVU and has danced professionally for the West Virginia Dance Company. She is creative, smart, and kind, and she’ll push you to continue developing your dance technique and skills through your college years.

Where will we rehearse?

Rehearsals will take place at Rhythms of Grace Dance Studio at 386 Ragland Road in Beckley, WV.
